A BRIEF HISTORY OF
THE LORD’S CHURCH
IN SHALLOTTE

The congregation at Shallotte was established on February 3, 1985 by four locally-resident Christians who recognized the need for a greater presence of the Lord’s church in the city. At first, the group met
in the American Legion building, before it was destroyed by fire. In the early nineties, the congregation relocated to Northside Drive, where the Fellowship Hall consisted of a kitchen in a narrow trailer behind
the main building and picnic tables under a shelter outside. At that time, the average size of the group was about 40 members year-round with numbers peaking near 100 during the summer months. After
more than a decade in that location, the Shallotte church found a more permanent home in the Fall of 2011 at our current two-building location on Bricklanding Road.

We Are A
Bible-Centered Church

Our aim is to be the church that Jesus established in the first century.  Therefore, we rely only on the Scriptures for authority in all that we teach and practice, and we reject all creeds and doctrines that originate from man.  The God of heaven revealed His will for mankind in His Word, the Bible. It is the inspired (2 Timothy 3:16), complete (2 Timothy 3:17), eternal (1 Peter 1:23) and final (Jude 3) revelation from God.  It is the original and only book that tells us about God, Jesus Christ, the church and eternal salvation. Consequently, in all of our sermons and Bible class lessons, we seek simply to “speak as the oracles of God” (1 Peter 4:11).

We Are A
Worshiping Church

We come together each Sunday to worship our loving God.  In our worship, we simply try to go back and worship like the church did in the first century, “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). Every week, we sing as a congregation, we pray, we listen to the Word of God being proclaimed, we give as we have been prospered, and we observe the Lord’s Supper.  Knowing that God is the object of our worship, we seek to do and say only those things that will bring honor and glory to His worthy name (Revelation 4:11).

We Are An
Evangelistic Church

Jesus told His disciples, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). Our aim is to do just as Jesus commanded and to present the gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost of the city of Shallotte, Brunswick County, south-eastern North Carolina, and other parts of the world. We take the Great Commission of Jesus very seriously and seek to fulfill it in every way that we can. The Lord’s church does not exist simply to serve itself but to follow the example of our Savior and “seek and save the lost” (Luke 19:10).

We Are A
Benevolent Church

Our aim is to meet both the spiritual and physical needs of this congregation and the community at large.  To this end, we have an established Pantry through which we provide food and hygiene items to anyone in need, both within and outside the household of faith (Galatians 6:10). In the past, we have also organized a Winter Coat Giveaway that was open to the entire Shallotte community. Throughout the year, we provide other needs-based assistance as individual cases are brought to our attention.

CHILDREN’S AND TEEN BIBLE CLASSES
The church of Christ places a great emphasis on its Bible school program.  We recognize the God-given responsibility that parents have to “train up a child in the way he should go” (Proverbs 22:6), and we have designed our children’s Bible classes to assist parents in that awesome task.  We currently have Sunday morning Bible classes for young children and teenagers, both of which are taught by knowledgeable, loving Christians who are concerned for the spiritual growth of their students.

ADULT BIBLE CLASSES
In addition to having classes for children of all ages, we have regular Bible classes for all adults as well.  Our adult Bible classes teach a variety of subjects stressing the application of Scriptures in our everyday lives.  In addition to a study of individual books of the Bible, topics of interest and concern are addressed as a regular component of the curriculum.  Our adult class meets on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, and we have a designated Bible class for Ladies on Thursday mornings during the school year.  All of our classes are taught by individuals who have a true respect for the authority of God’s Word and seek to convey that respect to those in the class.
